finally saw Tyler's adaptation.. and wow.. what a mess.. really.. it was just so badly done. Some of the scenes were just embarassing.. artistically speaking.. There was so much he could have done with this material.. and these actors. But once again, here we go.. the evil black man damaging the otherwise perfect black woman.. beating her.. raping her.. cheating on her with other women.. with other men.. giving her HIV.. and unwanted pregnancies.. and other sexual diseases.. dropping her babies out of windows.. controlling her.. molesting her daughter.. and driving her crazy.. and on and on.. the eeeeevvvilll black man.. just down low.. and dirty.. a predator waiting to pounce on you and and take your sex..your life.. your kids.. your money.. everything.. it was just crazy.. he creates all of this dramatic tension then just forgets about it and starts creating some more somewhere else. As a writer/director he has no sense whatsoever of how to control tension.. of when to use it and when to release it in service of plot. This movie is just a bunch of scenes connected that don't add up to anything in particular. I'm sure the playwright is grateful for the money.. but artistically she has got to be burning up.
