Early deaths tied to lack of grocery stores

Chicagoans who live in areas with scant grocery stores and many fast-food restaurants are more likely to die prematurely and at greater rates from diabetes, cancer or heart disease, a study to be released today finds. Residents of such "food deserts" -- clustered predominantly on the West and South sides -- also are more likely to be obese and suffer from hypertension, according to the study commissioned by LaSalle Bank. Researcher Mari Gallagher measured the distance to the nearest grocery and the nearest fast-food restaurant for every city block to come up with what she called a "food balance" score for each community area in Chicago. Taking into account health data for those areas and holding race, income and education constant, Gallagher found that the more "out of balance" a community is in terms of food choices, the higher the prevalence of chronic health issues and diet-related deaths.

African Americans, in particular, are "most disadvantaged when it comes to balanced food choices," her research found. They travel the farthest on average to any type of food store and tend to live in communities that make up three main clusters of food deserts in Chicago, according to the study. The death rate from diabetes in the worst -- and predominantly black -- food deserts is more than twice that of other communities, the study found... It follows past research by Gallagher looking at the distribution of chain supermarkets in Chicago and access to grocery stores as a function of income...The areas with the highest concentrations of single mothers and children "is almost a one-on-one match" with areas designated as food deserts, the study found.

Not only this the meats in urban areas have alot of fat on them.
The cut of meat is not lean.
The ones that are lean they cost an arm and a leg.
Those corner stores need to sell healthier foods for these kids.
They have everything from flamming hots and cheese and etc

Hey your local big bank is making your death speedy

Pizza Hut Finances Several Local Restaurants
NPC International Inc., the world's largest franchisee of Pizza Hut restaurants, has filed a $26.7 million mortgage for Tennessee Pizza Hut locations. The lenders included JPMorgan Chase Bank NA, Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Inc., Bank of America NA and SunTrust Bank. The financing is related to the sale of NPC to Merrill-Lynch Global Private Equity Group May 3. NPC operates about 800 stores in 26 states.
The original price of the loan for the Tennessee properties was $30.1 million, although the deed filed with the Shelby County Register of Deeds Office June 23 subtracted prior mortgages filed on five Shelby County stores, along with two in Gibson County and one each in Chester and Weakley counties, for a total listed price of $26.7 million
    ...
The financings are part of a $375 million mortgage NPC filed for property across the United States. The total collateral, or property put up for mortgage nationwide, is $193.3 million, of which $15.5 million is in Tennessee.
