Shireeka Wilson says she needed to defend herself when her mother, Valerie Rushing, attacked her in November 2011, according to USA Today.

The altercation was caught on surveillance video at the T & S Food Mart where it occurred.

Under “Stand Your Ground” laws people have the right to fight back, using deadly force if needed, if they feel their lives are in danger.

Rushing was shot in the neck by Wilson and survived. Following the shooting, she asked the state to drop all charges against her daughter, but the state denied her request.

Wilson was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. In FL that charge comes with a mandatory minimum of 20 years in prison.
