Prayers and well wishes to all who may be affected by the floods in Louisiana, particularly, Baton Rouge. How much more can that state take? Let's hope rescue efforts are better handled this time by FEMA than they were during Hurricane Katrina.

The whole world sat and watched in horror the "no help and slow response" to the victims of Katrina 11 years ago. With all the bad publicity that was heaped on first responders back then and the even more horrible image of white racists in Louisiana, I don't think they want that type of reputation on their heads again.

My prayers go to residents of the flood areas.
We should try to make an effort to understand how global warming is creating these monstrous storms events
Global warming is real and it is creating extreme weather events that is affecting the lives millions around the world.

The Latest: Governor Defends Obama's Response to Flooding
    August 18, 2016

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards is defending the Obama administration's response to the severe flooding in his state.

President Barack Obama has received criticism for staying on vacation rather than traveling to Louisiana to see the damage first-hand.

But Edwards said Thursday that he's spoken with the White House daily and has received quick responses for each request he's made to the administration. He noted that FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate visited the state Tuesday and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson was in-state Thursday.

10 Years Later: Fighting Blight in New Orleans after Katrina
    March 18, 2016

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) -- Nearly 10 years after Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans is still experiencing growing pains. Wednesday, a City Council Community Development Committee met to address the ongoing fight against blight. This comes a day after a survey by the University of New Orleans details the city's rebuilding effort. WGNO reporter Deepak Saini looks at how far we've come.
    ..
Bobbie Roy Jr. has lived in Gentilly for 30 years. He raised his home after the storm and over time, has watched his neighborhood grow.

"The houses coming up, Rouses, Chinese restaurants. Things are coming back. Kind of gives you a feel that it's almost what it used to be back before Katrina," says Roy Jr.

The house across the street from Bobby is blighted property that's undergoing renovation. According to a University of New Orleans survey, 81% of Katrina damaged homes in Orleans and St. Bernard Parishes have been completely rebuilt or are in the beginning stages.

Obama will not let Trump play political chess and make him look bad... so expect for a good show when he goes. Unfortunately, this will be used for politricks on all sides, but it is what it is.

The attention will hopefully help those that need it.

I actually thought that the crazies were over exaggerating and using older images of Obama golfing at Martha's Vineyard while Louisiana was flooded. You know how they will do in order to make it seem as if this was real news of sorts, "Obama golfs while flood victims survive".

But the man is on vacation, so what's all the fuss, right?

That was until I saw it in the context of this...

Obama to campaign for Hillary Clinton, Democrats on Martha's Vineyard
    August 15, 2016

EDGARTOWN, Mass. -- Golf game, afternoons at the beach and ... political campaigning?

President Barack Obama is interrupting what so far has been a leisurely vacation to campaign and help raise money for Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee...

Obama is slated to headline a Democratic Party fundraising reception Monday evening on Martha's Vineyard, the island playground off the coast of Massachusetts where he's in the midst of a two-week vacation with his wife, Michelle, and their daughters Malia and Sasha.

Democrats Hank Goldberg and his wife, Carol, are hosting the event at their home in Chilmark, the same town where the president is renting a vacation home.

Obama will deliver remarks, but the news media will not be permitted to hear his answers to questions asked by some of the donors in attendance. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Hillary Victory Fund...

Here’s why President Obama isn’t stopping his vacation to visit the Louisiana flooding
    August 18, 2016

That's why Obama won't break off his vacation in Martha's Vineyard — or stop playing golf on said vacation — to travel to Louisiana. Because he believes he can monitor the situation as well — or better — from where he is. And that the sole reason to go to Louisiana is for the theatrical piece of politics, a piece that he not only rejects but detests.

I'm a little disappointed in President Obama for not acting sooner, regardless of whether it's political props or ploy or not to visit Louisiana.

And I wish he hadn't described presidential visits like that, although it may be true. Still, people who are suffering and in trouble want to believe that their political leaders really do care about them as people and not just voters.

Does he deserve a vacation? Sure he does but let's face it, his job is just a tad bit different than anyone else's in this country. He must respond to any call of duty at any time.

President Obama heavily criticized G. W. Bush for waiting until a week after Hurricane Katrina demolished N.O. before he visited. He's sounding like a hypocrite. And now the spin is, thanks to Hillary, that they aren't visiting now because they don't want to be a DISTRACTION? Wow...they really do think American people are stupid.

I don't know, it's such a simple thing to do and it would mean a lot in terms of raising people's spirits in such a crisis where people have died and lost everything they own. Yes, FEMA is there and someone else from his administration but nothing says it louder that "WE CARE" than the face of our president and what will it cost him for a brief visit? At least that's how I feel and it will impact how people vote in November. . . :bye:

Both Obama and Clinton had to raise some money, can't do that in Louisiana. Though Obama did take a break from his "vacation" to raise some for Clinton before she arrived there on Saturday.

Being that Jill Stein nor Gary Johnson haven't really chimed in that much or visit either, doesn't help to improve their chances of being part of the discussion/debate.

Which is a sad consideration, when Trump is the only candidate that has been, some folks desired to ridiculed him for doing what Obama is going to do 4 days later. Some actually jabbed at him for donating toys and playdough. Guess they jabbed at him for donating $100,000 as well.

We know Obama has had plenty of time to get a well written speech together, to marvel the listeners on Tuesday.

But comparing Bush/Katrina and Obama/Flooding is not entirely the same.

Bush's plan to let others handle it would have been considered similar, if the ones handling it didn't botch the mess out of it. People dying inside Arenas while Bush was thinking "Brownie" was doing a good job, is nothing close to Obama playing golf... though we really don't know how bad it is (media bias?).

Katrina aftermath was far worse than this, just go back and compare.

Not excusing the bad optics it presents Obama, but just saying.

Yes, you're right. Comparing Obama to Bush isn't fair. Bush is a nitwit as evidenced by his behavior when he attended the Dallas police memorial.

I guess because he's Black, I have higher expectations of Obama than any previous POTUS because I desperately want to believe that we, as a people, are different in a good way. I'm sure he has good reasons for doing it his way, and if not, he'll make it sound like he does. Bless his heart.

Another difference is he was there on vacation with his family, so even though I would ride him on this, he did seem to delegate it where he wouldn't get much blow-back for not coming sooner.

The only thing he really can offer aside from government funds is an inspirational speech anyway. Not like he has a Clinton Foundation or backing from Warren Buffett or George Soros you know... ;) .

The other bad optic for Obama and Clinton, and power chess move by Trump...

Trump Donates $100,000 and truck of goods, while Obama and Clinton ask for thousands of dollars for campaign.

Whoever his strategist or advisor is now, made this hurt... Trump probably should have kept his mouth shut, instead he screws the pooch when he goes there, and then comes back criticizing Obama.

Makes it look like what everybody thinks that was... a political stunt.
