"The Michigan attorney general on Wednesday sued French water company Veolia and a Texas firm for "botching" their roles in the city of Flint's drinking water crisis that exposed residents to dangerously high lead levels.

Attorney General Bill Schuette said at a news conference in Flint that the civil lawsuit was filed in Genesee County Circuit Court against Veolia Environnement SA (VIE.PA) and Houston-based engineering services firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam (LAN).

The lawsuit charged Veolia with professional negligence and fraud that caused Flint's the lead poisoning to continue and worsen, and LAN with professional negligence.

Schuette said the state is seeking damages from the companies that could total hundreds of millions of dollars. His office said additional claims against the firms or others may be filed in the future.

EPA says filtered Flint, Michigan drinking water safe to drink


DETROIT (Reuters) - Federal officials said on Thursday it is safe for anyone to drink properly filtered water in Flint, Michigan, where a public health crisis erupted after residents were exposed to dangerously high levels of lead.

‘First the water. Now the trash’: Flint bickering leads to suspension of trash pickup



Still stocking bottled water after the city’s lead contamination crisis, Flint residents are now being forced to store something else in their homes — their trash.

The city announced Saturday that it will suspend trash pickup indefinitely beginning Monday while a judge works out a weeks-old disagreement between city officials. Judge: Flint water allegations 'shock the conscience'


LANSING — The State of Michigan can be sued over allegations that the contamination of Flint's drinking water damaged the health of residents and hurt the value of their properties, a Michigan Court of Claims judge has ruled.

Judge Mark Boonstra, in an opinion issued Wednesday, said that if proven true, allegations brought against Gov. Rick Snyder and other defendants by Melissa Mays and other Flint residents, "shock the conscience" ...
