Flint mayor criticizes state's decision to end free bottled water distribution

KARMA ALLEN
Good Morning America

Officials in Flint, Michigan, are criticizing the state for ending its bottled water distribution program as the city continues to recover from a lead-contaminated water crisis. Republican Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder said Friday the state would stop supplying free bottled water to Flint residents, saying water quality there had “tested below action levels of the federal Lead and Copper Rule for nearly two years.”

First a little known fact about GM relocating their assembly plants from the city of Flint to Genesee County's suburban areas. The plant relocation's started in the 40's not the late 70's and by 1980 GM left Flint in financial ruin. That was the start of a failed austerity program that has eventually doomed Flint.

Yes, taxpayer funded legal fees NNQ. That's national policy for every political office in America during their tenure.

So tell me this. If a government official is found GUILTY of breaking a law(s) or committing a crime, resulting in jail time, can taxpayers get their money back, or no? Citizens are the "victims" in these cases so who defends them? Do they have to take the issue up in a civil lawsuit whereby they have to pay for legal representation?

Here's another question I don't know the answer to. Congress is always holding hearings and calling people in to testify about a situation that occurred. What power does Congress have when testimonies are given? Change laws? They're not the judicial branch of government so what's the real benefit of having congressional hearings?

Judge won't order Flint bottled water program to resume
Associated Press

The Flint Journal reports that U.S. District Judge Judith Levy sided with the state, which announced an end to the program on April 6. Tests show Flint is far below the federal action level for lead as it recovers from a lead-contaminated water crisis, some residents and Mayor Karen Weaver say bottled water should remain available until home water lines are replaced, a job that will last until 2020.
