My haiku in memory of Richard Wright.

    4,000 Haikus
    In his 18 final months.
    Life, death, hope in verse.

Many of us know Richard for the book he authored, entitled: Native Son.
However, 18 months before he died, he discovered Haiku. He was literally driven by the art of 17 syllables. I enjoy the works of several haikuist, but I believe I enjoy his the most. Not because he is African American, but he somehow captured life, death and hope so beautifully and visually. They leave you feeling as though you have experienced something deep and emotional, during the moment you read his poem.
Just like his gift of fiction...his Haiku is very deep and visual.
He was born in 1908 and died in 1960.

Here are two of his Haikus

    As my anger ebbs,
The spring stars grow bright again
    And the wind returns.

    A sleepless spring night:
Yearning for what I never had
    And for what never was.
