Beyond Ishtar: The Tradition of Eggs at Easter

Don’t believe every meme you encounter

Ishtar was the goddess of love and war and sex, as well as protection, fate, childbirth, marriage, and storms—there's some fertility in there, but as with Aphrodite, there is also an element of power. Her cult practiced sacred prostitution, where women waited at a temple and had sex with a stranger in exchange for a divine blessing (and money to feed hungry children or pay a debt).

Should a Christian read the Chronicles of Narnia series or see the movies?

While it is true that The Chronicles of Narnia series includes evil witches and mystical spells, each of the seven books is filled with biblical allegories and allusions. For instance, the hero of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is a lion named Aslan (Jesus is called a “lion” in Revelation 5:5). Aslan created the world of Narnia with his voice, which is very similar to the Genesis account of how God created the earth: "And God said” (Genesis 1:3). In addition, Aslan dies in the place of a sinner and rises from the dead, and by doing so, defeats an age-old curse. Redemption is bestowed upon Narnia because of the death and resurrection of Aslan. Clearly, this is Lewis’ retelling of the salvation story of the substitutionary death and resurrection of Christ.

Charlton Heston's son discusses 'The Ten Commandments' and his father's controversial support of the NRA

It’s interesting that DeMille drew on a variety of sources to flesh out his telling of the Exodus story, including the Qur’an.

Why 1 million people decided to change their religion in 2 hours

Our Good Friday event was a global campaign that was literally built on the shoulders of those who have gone before us, and just one more example of what I believe is the most exciting moment in history to be a follower of Jesus. In Hebrews 13:7-8, the author writes, “Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

New Study Suggests State Support Weakens Christianity

It turns out that Christianity spreads most successfully in countries with a legal commitment to religious pluralism and countries that actively discriminate against the Christian faith.
