Police chief's anti-racism sign lauded, criticized

Ford, who is suing the city in federal court, was acquitted in September of aggravated assault for allegedly endangering officers by driving away from the stop. Ford contends in his lawsuit that officers apparently thought he was a wanted gang member but refused to believe they had the wrong person even after he gave them various pieces of identification. Ford contends he didn't try to flee, but that his car was knocked into gear as officers tried to yank him from the vehicle.

The Allegheny County district attorney has yet to decide whether Ford will be retried on lesser remaining charges, prompting protests and causing Ford's name to be mentioned in recent marches and other demonstrations relating to the shooting of an unarmed black man by police in Ferguson, Missouri.

Museum capturing Ferguson history as it happens

ST. LOUIS (AP) — From street-artist paintings on boards protecting store windows to signs bearing the now iconic statement, "Hands Up. Don't Shoot," cultural images from the Ferguson protests have become firmly established in recent Missouri history. So much so that the Missouri History Museum is gathering images and items cataloging the unrest that followed the August shooting death of Michael Brown by a Ferguson police officer.

Ferguson protesters stall opening of Missouri Senate session

Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder, who was presiding over the chamber, said demonstrators were violating Senate rules of decorum and ordered proceedings suspended while police cleared people from the visitors' galleries. The Senate resumed after about 30 minutes, but no one was allowed to return to the visitors' section.

Protest leaders and a spokesman for the Missouri Department of Public Safety said no one was arrested.

NAACP Calls For New Ferguson Grand Jury Citing Multiple Concerns With November Decision

Nearly six weeks after a St. Louis County grand jury decided not to indict former Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson for the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund has asked a Missouri judge to convene a panel to reconsider charges. A letter was submitted Monday to Circuit Judge Maura McShane, asking for a special prosecutor to oversee the case and an investigation of the previous grand jury, citing “grave legal concerns” in its decision not to charge Wilson, 28.
