Father:

I never got a chance to say thank you
The only understanding that I ever had
Of a father was the the one installed thru the condition

I never realized that I was being father'd
And never realized the magnitude of
The physic ability we share
And my own ability to actualize for myself

The oppression of the walls that I lived within
Never occurred to me to be a part of my existence
Because in my mind I was always with you

I call the pawn of my conception by his first name
His americanized, western given slave name
But I had a father in you
And one that was so loving that through anger I've learned to

forgive

So I live

They say that a child can't be raised with an absent father
And when my heart churned for something to define and call dad
Your spirit came and you fathered me through the love of your

Emotion

Your devotion

As the tears swell in my eyes all I can say is thank you
Thank you for being you
And helping me find me

At least I have a picture in my mind
of
What a father is meant to be.

What a cathartic tribute!

To differentiate like this between a biological and the man your retrospect sees as deserving of being called "Dad" is so powerful!

The writer as well as the reader is enriched by this piece.

Sister CB:

I had to look cathartic up

thank you for sharing your understanding... i was hoping not to insight any pain because my heart felt so in a state of peace really as u stated it was overwhelmingly enriching to write

thank you and much love
