FATED

Working away feverously for life,
lungs fill like the rest but I’m missing a slice,
Waiting for no one to show,
Jaded on rejection
an plugging up desire
So later blood won’t flow,
Preemptive remedy on an abrasion
that won’t heal,
Seeking the cure in her
always ruptures the seal,
Or I sit and scratch away at the surface
temporally satisfy that itch,
I’m the embodiment of change
But days don’t seem to switch,
Have I not equaled the effort of ten men,
Should I not question my own resolve?
In bearing witness to the same breakdowns again and again,
Resiliency buckling while fighting
What appears to be written,
Is this the correlation between suffering and Melanin?
Tortured POWs after breaking point give in,
My passion to fight for life need refill’n,
Destination nor the journey is thrilling,
I’m willing to push on and be stong,
But survival aint enough when living is all wrong,
When the pain flows over the surface and stays for too long,
When belief is all you have,
But on a day like today you tried it for the dreams the white man has,
I can pretend too,
My world aint burning around,
Pollution aint that profound,
Mother nature aint throwing hurricanes on the rebound,
Bodies in Iraq haven’t yet begun to mound,
The city is vibrant and healthy,
As long as I’m living good and wealthy,
I don’t live where it’s dreaded and filthy,
I choose to be an optimist instead,
Despite now it’s every week the streets run red,
Keep a cool head unless they meddle with unlead,
An the Hummer can’t cruise the corner to get bread.
