And while Zuckerberg’s testimony was widely viewed as a successful defense of the company he started in 2004 — Facebook’s stock was up 4.5% at market close the first day of hearings — there were many questions Zuckerberg left unanswered. Cambridge Analytica: What The Media Won’t Tell You
What is worse then AI robots taking over the planet? Well for one thing, Facebook let Trump use AI to win the 2016 election

... The fact of the matter is the data that Cambridge Analytica acquired from Facebook, much of which they obtained legally and as Facebook intended them to, was entirely useless without machine learning. Machine learning is one of the baby steps required for building artificial intelligence, it is a field of computer science that gives computer systems the ability to “learn” with data without being programmed by a person.

“CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA IS JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG”: WHY THE PRIVACY CRISIS IS BIGGER THAN FACEBOOK
After all that we’ve given away of ourselves, will Facebook be a turning point for how we live online?

... Each new data breach—Yahoo, Equifax, Uber, and now Facebook’s Cambridge Analytica leak, which sold out as many as 87 million people—has set off alarm bells, yet we continue to readily engage with free platforms that make our lives easier. As technology evolves, however, our complacency is poised to leave us more exposed than ever before.

It was one of the few moments that left Mark Zuckerberg speechless:

... For now, he has found (you can read the order here) that "plaintiffs' claims are sufficiently cohesive to allow for a fair and efficient resolution on a class basis." The class itself will consist of "Facebook users located in Illinois for whom Facebook created and stored a face template after June 7, 2011."

IS THE LAW FINALLY CATCHING UP TO MARK ZUCKERBERG?

A new class-action suit around user privacy could force Facebook to pay billions

... Facebook does this through a program called DeepFace, which uses data it has gathered about what you look like to match your face to your online profile. But Illinois’s Biometric Information Privacy Act (B.I.P.A.), which was signed into law in 2008, requires that companies notify people when their biometric data is being collected, and get their permission to do so.

... But Politico reports that under the threat of regulation, Facebook reached out to conservative groups to rally support, and to seek guidance in fending off the strict General Data Protection Regulation (G.D.P.R.) rules that are set to take effect late next month.
