    FACE TO FACE

There’s a rudimentary principle when facing life in realistic spheres
Never stop observing and always keep open your eyes and ears
Keep watch for the little things, careful not to over-fathom or figure
For it’s the little things that build and get obviously bigger
The long I look at the world around me, the more interesting it gets
For I see it more than just the cycle of sunrises and sunsets
I see good and bad; right and wrong; the beautiful and not-so-nice
I see the warmth of virtuous actions, and the bitter actions of vice
I hear the undertone of justice of those who’ve been venerated
As well as the inclination in the voices of those who’ve been violated
Along with the cheer in the voices of those who’ve been celebrated
As well as the transparent façade of those who are highly over-rated
But before saying that the situation needs a face lift
There are a few things I need to come face to face with
Before facing the world in all of its cold practicality
I have to face my world and make sense of my own reality

There is a fundamental truth that I’ve come to realize
As I look at the man in the mirror, and the pupils of my own eyes
In order to face the reality of what I know to be
I have to come face to face with myself and the reality that is me
I have to take a look at the strengths that I know, assuredly
I also have to look at my imperfections and my measure of insecurity
I have to check the balances of virtues and vices that vie for control
I have to peer deep into the an in the mirror to see inside of his soul
Looking past the face of my reflection to see a ‘three-fold’ guy
And have a very serious conversation with me, myself, and I
Have a talk about the present, and reflect upon the past
To speculate about the future that I’ll see, at long last
I’d ponder my previous choices rejoicing others … regretting some
I’d peer into the memories to see who I was and what I’ve become
So that I can change bad habits and improve what needs improving
Sticking to solid foundations and away from those that are shifting and moving

There are certain fundamentals that I know to be true
Particularly when the pupils of your eyes come into my view
Pondering in moments neither too frequent nor too few
Coming face to face with the soul and spirit contained in you
I’m not just looking at you, merely in the manner of seeing
I’m looking at your demeanor and emotional well being
Remembering you as the person as when I first found you
Watching how you react to the environment around you
I’m standing face to face, looking you in the eye, through a colored iris
Through your cornea, past your retina, to a person who’s colored by this -
Exchanged of ocular push, pull, and peering as I search your prejudice and your pride
Taking a really good look – not at the outward appearance – but at the person inside
As I face you, face to face, the distance between us is a breath away
As I peer into your being, silence is the medium through which I say -
I se you for who you are, with stark-naked honesty
And I want to see more of you if I am to speak honestly

When I’ve gone back to basics and my foundation is set
I can build on fundamentals; on grounds as solid as it gets
Making sure that rudimentary principles are sound and my knowledge is whet
I can now take the time to look at your silhouette
I can look at your profile as your stance says it loud
As you face forward with confidence, your look says you’re proud
A look that says you don’t need a hero to save you
That you can get along in life with the strength God gave you
A strength you developed from all that you’ve went through
A strength that makes you proud to stand side by side with you
Hand and hand; shoulder to shoulder we face trials circumstance
I stand with you, with a stone-faced resolve, looking in the direction of your glance
We are two imperfect beings on our way to perfection
We are two individuals with the same mind, going in the same direction
As we trek through this life with a path that takes us from place to place
Taking life as it comes – head on, as we look life face to face

To look at the reality of yourself no matter how unattractive, so that you can make adjustments if need be, never a simple task, but necessary to know ourselves as we are.
And I whole heartedly agree with this:
When you love, you can never desire to see enough of who that person really is. Can't say enough about the depths of this piece. Wonderful.
