    upon review
    upon reflection
    the current minstrel shows
    require further detection

    brothers making money
    at our own expense
    white folks do
    why can't they?
    it makes financial sense

    controversy more than welcome
    the box office grows
    millions of tickets bought
    thanks to the lighthouse
    for this significant thought

    it's all about money
    no shame in this game
    exploiation
    black or white
    when the money is green
    it's all the same

so perhaps like the brothers years ago
the current crop of black funnymen
    face the same situation
    modern day scenery
    is now the plantation

    everybody is getting paid
a bird in the hand I'm afraid
yes, it's all about about the money
    i'm through with it
    it just ain't funny

    no qualms about that Heartbeat

i'm sure their philosophy of having better values is blinded by the need to EAT

i'm sure it was hard for many of the people featured in that film in climbing their way to stardom financially

especially when you are often in between gigs and your phone isn't exactly ringing off the hook like Will Smith and Martin Lawrence or Eddie Murphy

it is definitely a struggle for most people who pursue careers in arts and entertainment to FIND work that is tasteful

Heartbeat, i'm sure they want to play more sophisticated roles and they may have even tried out for auditions to play more sophisticated roles but didn't get the part (but the interviewers conducting auditions probably said "you aren't exactly what we had in mind for this part but we definitely have something for you for another part")

so the question still remains and i agree with Heartbeat

why do black entertainers sell themselves out/short?
