Like every 9 seconds...
Every 9 seconds...
Every 9 seconds...
A woman is beaten or assaulted
By someone whom she’s acquainted with
They’re pummeled till they are inundated
With welts by hand, belts or anything else they would injure her with.

While in the bloom of my youth
At chance I came to know her
We all called her Miss or Missy but her name was Melissa
She became dearly loved by my family
She was, as I can remember a woman that scarcely took foul attitudes from anyone.
Many loved Miss,
She had a type of spirit, a countenance that drew people to her.
As I think back to remember her I realize
She became my first hand knowledge of domestic brutality
Missy met this man with flattery and charm
she saw no harm in his ways
While she dated this man… She didn’t clearly see through him…
The things easily hidden while dating…
Possessiveness, selfishness, jealousy and quick temper…
She married early 19, 20 or so.
To a man she really didn’t know…
(Because I think if she really knew him she wouldn’t have married him)
I remember the day her wedding
She dressed in antique white,
Oh we partied hardy that night…
If only she’d taken her time to see the light, didn’t truly shine upon this man
His whole public demeanor was a façade a sham
See Missy spent 2 years within nightmarish conditions
He expected her to be within servitude to him
How do you claim that as love?
To me he proved that he only loved himself
He wouldn’t allow her to associate with her friends or family
He denied her, her right to be the woman she was, (she loved extrovertly)
Beating her to submission was how he showed love
How he showed love? How he showed love?
Yeah love of power, of control, of self, but certainly not of her.
Tina Turner had it right love didn’t have a thing to do with it…
Because love wouldn’t let you beat on you wife
Love wouldn’t let you cause her anguish and strife…
Love wouldn’t let you, selfishly end her life…
Now I look back and see
“Until death do us part” can become a prophecy
So heed the example of Miss
Take the time to know whom you’re dealing with
Else you may find yourself slipping away in the moments
Like every 9 seconds
Because Every 9 seconds
Every 9 seconds...
A woman is beaten or assaulted
Please don’t become another statistic…
