In what can probably be viewed as an act of mercy, the New York State Athletic Commission has stripped the legendary Evander Holyfield of his license to box in New York! Once one of the greatest fighters to step in the ring (and a personal favorite of mine), Holyfield has had a steady decline over the last 5 years (losing his last 6 fights). Although he shows up to fights in excellent shape, Holyfield is simply unable to perform (oft times throwing 20 or fewer punches per round). Most rounds of Holyfield's last 5 years are spent getting hit by his opponent. Despite his horrible performances, Evander still believes he can regain the Heavyweight title. Unfortunately since no one close to Evander can convince him to quit, the NYSAC decided to step in:

A great decision on their part. Someone has to stop this man before he kills himself.

This is absolutely true brother Kente; however, this ban is only good in New York. Most major boxing states: New Jersey (Atlantic City); Nevada (Las Vegas), California, etc...will probably do the same. Unfortunately though, somebody somewhere will give him a license...if not in the US, then overseas. Ultimately if a person wants to kill themselves, someone will let them...sad end for a great fighter!

The article did mention the ban being in all states, which doesn't usually happen. however Holyfield could very well go overseas, and still get paid!

you know Pan i felt he should have stop when he was at his finest of boxing
but i will always remember him as a true champion in the sports along side
    of other greats ...
I don't understand why many athletic don't hang it up after so long and go
out being what they are champions
I agree time Tyson hang his gloves up before somebody hurt him
good someone made the move to end his career before damage be really done
so many has fallen to these acts to continue when they really washed up !
sad tale to a great fighter /boxer and champion.

All athletes struggle with when to call in the cards: Jerry Rice, Michael Jordan, etc. However with most athletes going on for to long only causes embarrasment. In boxing not knowing when to quit can get you killed or brain damaged!
