Epithet of a Black Man

He tips his hat
And bows his eyes
Submission in the back of his mind
He drinks brackish water
Which gives him a heart
Brackish tears glitter in his eyes
He wipes them away with a start

Nevermore can he mourn for his lost brethren
Hung, lynched, tarred
Swinging in the breeze
While master and mistress of the past look on

He steps into the sunlight
"Step alive boy"
Oh the sound of the white man's voice!
He could scream you bastard
Demand tribute for the eversuffering black man
He could, he could...

He tips his hat
And bows his eyes
"Sorry suh" he mutters
Coward mutters through his heart
Oh you eversuffering man
Oh you eversuffering coward
