I have always felt a gospel bend in the Debarge family's music.. I think many
of their struggles with addiction had to do with them not being where they
truly believed they should have been.. Everytime I've seen any of them live,
I felt the conflict in them.. not that I'm psychic or anything.. but they always
performed a couple of church songs.. and the energy and feeling in those songs
always seemed to me so much stronger and natural than their shoobeedoo-I-love-you songs..

Anyway, check out El solo on the piano:

They did grow up in a gospel environment-strictly gospel..but the story of their upbringing is really depressing... they are biracial, father white mother black... 11 children or some ridiculous number like that... father molested all of them except the last 2 who were by a different man...mother sat by and did nothing:10500:

the oldest sister has a book out that tells the full story...

sad..their story is also on TVone's Unsung...
