Egbe Akinkonju is a society of and for males of African descent. Its mission is to organize and develop males of African descent who are committed and dedicated to the upliftment of community, family and self. Based on the principle of one's indigenous and/or ancestral heritage is the context within which such upliftement will manifest.

The Society of Men, at Oyatunji African Village incorporates the Egbe of men in their daily functions. The Orisa Ogun and Ochosi are the partrons deities and cosmic prototype for their societies of men. The energy of Ogun the warrior, hunter, pioneer and advocate for justice, along with Ochosi the archer, hunter, brother, companion and organizational master exemplifies the character, attitude and vision engendered in Egbe Akinkonju.

The Militia, the Dopkwe, and the Egbe Oni Lu are soem of the manifestations of Egbe Akinkonju. The militia is a department of the Akinkonju society, which oversees the community's watch system, the raising and lowering of the state flags, as well as overall Village security. During festivals, its parade unit is called upon to greet and march in procession during formal state occasions.

The Dopkwe oversees construction and public works in the African community. Under the auspices of the Dopkwe training program, young men are taught the various facets of the building trades necessary to build and maintain a community. Senior members are able to enhance and improve their abilities in these areas. Public works include the building and maintenance of public as well as private facilities, landscaping, road maintenance, recycling, plumbing and electrical systems.

The Oni lu (Musicians-drummers) provides the heartbeat of African society. It is the drum, which most closely personifies the heartbeat, and therefore, the society of drummers is a most important component of any spiritual, religious, civic, and social function. It is the beat of the drum that keeps the cultural blood flowing through the body of the community. From the youngest to the oldest, males are expected to learn and are taught to play some musical instruments.

Egbe Okunrin (society of men) is the umbrella and/or foundation of the societies of men, which oversees all of African male development. This includes but is not limited to, spiritual, social and economic development. Perhaps the most important of all, Egbe Akinkonju administers the African Male Rites of Passage program. This program is the cornerstone and fountainhead for male education, inspiration, motivation and discipline.

All males of African descent are potential members of Egbe Akinkonju, a civic society of males starting at age 12. Younger males are ofcourse included in the pre-Akinkonju development program. Egbe Akinkonju of Oyotunji Village realizes that long with the African female we must rebuild our world. Of course, we start with ourselves, family, community nation and race. It is a task we have started and the work continues.
