Waking in the middle of the night
    Something's wrong
I walk into your room only to find
    You're gone
Sitting at the table drinking coffee
    Until dawn
My heart is full of worry
    What's wrong
Morning comes, you're still not home
    How come
I ring to ask friends, "Where are you"
    Not here
I drive the streets to look for you
    Still nothing
Policeman says you'll turn up soon
    Just wait
Night is here, you're still missing
    I'm scared
    Knock on the door...Hello ma'am
    Oh no
We think we've found your daughter
    At last
Can you come down to the station
    What for
To look at the body, just to be sure
    I scream
At last I find my little girl
    Looks different
Still and cold on a metal bed
    Not living
My heart breaks, I die inside
    Tears fall
How did my baby get taken from me
    What happened
Rave party, good times, took ecstacy
    Fatal shutdown
I never knew, I didn't see, Oh God
    Blame me

this brought the pain...the chills...I have three daughters. And I cannot imagine having to do this...ever. My heart aches for the mothers and fathers who have.

    Wow! Kitana,

You have the remarkable ability to pull the reader directly into your poetry. I felt like I was the mother. Possibly because as Alyce stated, I have a daughter as well. That has to be the most difficult thing for a parent. I know many mothers who had to do this. A parent burying their child is so unnatural, but sadly it's fastly becoming such the norm in todays world.

Baller...it's too true isn't it...how many kids give in to their "friends" and end up in a place they can't return from?
they have the attitude that they are invincible....that nothing bad will happen...but of course they are wrong...
thanks for the read and the words....

a...mine too...as a mother you have to feel for others who have lost children this way..I thank god on a daily basis for giving me the chance to raise my kids in the country away from all the negativity that is the norm today...they are still exposed but on a much lesser level...thanks for the words...

Coco...I totally agree...and sadly as you say, it has become the norm to see this kind of thing happen...and sometimes I think it's just so unfair that they get caught up in it and can't see the light...thanks for the words...much appreciated...
