Echoes from the

Is what I hear
As I stand over the precipice
Of Poetry’s Abyss
Where prolific
And profound
Poets abide
Challenging the minds
Of those who hear
Their words
Take it to the next dimension
And captivate
With words
Hear
The beat of many drums
As poets hum
Over the
M
I
C
Change your way of thinking
Come from your comfort zone
I sit
As I hear
Emanations ascending
From the crevices
Of Poetry’s belly
Mystifying my mind
Sounds
Of past
Present
Future coming together
Echoes permeating my mental
As I hear the flow
Of those
Who came before
Langston Hughes
Gwendolyn Brooks
Phyllis Wheatley
George Moses Horton
James Weldon Johnson
Nikki Giovanni
Calvin Forbes
Paul Lawrence Dunbar
Countee Cullen
Margaret Burroughs
Mari Evans
Haki Madhubuti
And
Others
Fuel my mind
With words
And
Discource
That
Transforms
Me from
Mortal
To immortality
As I feed of the words
Of life
Eternal
Words
That shall forever
Echo from the
M
I
C
