has anyone noticed the double standard in television in regaurd to homosexuality?....example are the two shows on showtime Queer as Folk and The L Word......two totally different shows....The ladder is extremely sexually oriented and the other is a bit more tame. Queer as Folk has only a few female characters (two of them are lesbians and in relationships with each other). The L Word however has had several male characters and tho they may not have staple roles in the show they are difeinitaly not gay but actually either the husband the boyfriend or some other straight male thrown into the plot....is this because men are supposedly more sexual and women more emotional?....if so also take a look at the shows they allow on regular television....there are no lesbian shows to my knowledge but there are more than a handful of gay (male) shows...

It may seem harder to digest the thought of two men having sex, but it seems the thought of two women being in a relationship with no male inffluence is even more distasteful to our society.

or maybe i'm reading into it.....ur thoughts?

In my opinion, I think that as far as TV, maybe they think it's funnier with two men because some gay men are very flamboient (Will and Grace). Maybe it makes for better TV than seeing two women. You know it's all about the ratings in TV land. I'm not sure though. I haven't seen a lot of gay shows, whether they are about men or women, but that one does come to mind. :peace:

I don't know what seasons of Queer as Folk that you saw, 2/11, but the first two seasons were very sexually graphic indeed. The L Word is quite tame in that respect, by comparison.

Your comment that it is distasteful for two women to be in a relationship without a male present is very interesting. There is more hatred in general aimed at gay men because of societal homophobia around their sexual relations. For example, there is a huge industry in the porn world of two women having sex; not so with the men. People in general are more used to and comfortable with the thought of two women hugging and being affectionate than two men.

Explain to me why there are no black men in recurring roles on a major network portraying a gaqy man or a gay couple! it's like we don't exist and we most certainly do. I have been in a relationship for three years and i have yet to see a positive role model for us brothers.
