am i selfish to not want to lose you
to not want to let you go anytime soon
am I selfish to cherish the good days
where we can sit outside in the sun
laugh and joke as we sip rum on the rocks
    enjoy one another’s company

we reminisce about days on the beach
scenes so real you can taste the salt on the wind
    and sometimes during our stories
visions from our past and glimpses of skywriting
i catch your frailty out the corner of my eye
the reality of it breaks my heart

am i selfish to not want to lose you
to want you to see your grandsons graduate from high school
to hear you say you’ve always wanted a tattoo
and i’m gonna take you to get one too
amidst the fun and the still shining sun
we say we’ll take each day as it comes

because I don’t want to lose you
    to cancer

Redlady, what comfort you will be, there to cherish every moment. We can pray for many good ones. This poem is all about giving and loving.

Thank you Gaylee, sometimes the depth and the reality of losing someone you love leaves less room for comment.

I know that it must bring joy to a daddy’s heart to know
That even in a frail state of being he is still needed and loved
Just let him know that you understand and that no matter what
    He will always be loved
