    Does this spoken word stuff
    Always have to rhyme?
    Because sometimes I write words
That don’t rhyme all the time.

    Cause sometimes
    all of a sudden
    I’ll find myself
    going through something
    And then out of nothing
    These words in my head
    Become something

    Sometimes they rhyme
    Right on time
    Sometimes they don’t
    Sometimes they won’t

So I just want to know
    Does my flow

    Have to rhyme
    All the time?

    Ab(soul)utely not...

sometimes only certain words rhyme with certain words and u have different words in mind...as long as they come from the heart...each one is felt.

    No Sistah Gurl

No NappyGirl, poetry does not have to rhyme. If it does,
then someone will have to rewrite the bible, because most of the old testament (and some of the new) is written in a beautiful poetic style. Though there have been many great rhyming poets, none of them come close to the poetic style which pulls on the soul, like that of David.

Though I rhyme most of the time, sometimes I don't and the poems that rhyme are no better than the ones that do.
Free verse is here to stay. But just because it is free verse, does not mean there is no skillz involved. For we must still be able to convey with clarity, a metaphorical aura that stimulates the nerve endings of the soul. And that my friend is hard to do, whether you rhyme or not. So the focus should not be on the rhyme, but on the beauty and choice of the words that are to be contained therein.
