    I've been looking into this recently but there aren't any courses nearby. Has anyone tried something like this?

    Yes, but those skills are meant to get you back to human settlement.

    There's tons of courses, forums, and books about surviving/homesteading/sheltering-in-place out there.

    There's a really strong culture of people who are really obsessed and into that stuff too. They're a bit much, but you can still learn a lot from them.

    Just general experience to know that your body and nature are one but your mind can fail you. So get your mind right to survive adequately.

    I watch this show from time to time called "Dude, You're Screwed. I have rudimentary basic skills but you are right about a whole subculture.
