    i walked the concrete jungle
    listening to the heartbeat
    of death
intimately aware of both predator and prey
    lurking over my shoulders
    constantly looking my way
    ...poised for the attack
    looking backwards and front
    ...frontwards and back
    protecting mine
    night and day

DO YOU HEAR WHAT I SAY?

    as the tentacles
    of death {night}
    slowly crept upon me
    i went into stealth mode
    and crept in the shadows
    of yesterday's memory

    I SEE

    big cats
    with their bank's fat
    getting high on open-legged SISTAHS
    crawling on their back

    WHAT KINDA **** IS THAT?

    I SEE

    pusher kiddies
    imitating their daddies
    thinking they be smarter
    than the last kiddies
    in juvenile D.

    THEY'RE TOO YOUNG TO UNDERSTAND

    {SOME **** JUST BE WRONG}

    I SEE

    genteel ladies
trying to make it with their babies
    but, here, lately
    babies {boy} be calling themselves
    DA MAN

    ****

as i walk through the valley
    of dark shadows
hearing tear stains and blood rains echo
    on the night air
    where is the right
    in kiddies
    playing daddy
    while mommie
sit at home with a needle in her arm
    SCREAMING
"what's the harm in a baby doing what a baby gotta do?"

    as the sunrise trickle in
    and the shadows slowly bend
    into the darkness
    from which they were born

    I SEE

    hypocrits
    pretending to be legit
in a safe and urban environment
    that's anything but content

BUT THAT AIN'T THE JUNGLE I KNOW

    so,
i make my way back to the lair
    where the doors are closed
    with wrought iron
    everywhere

as i lay me down to sleep
i pray to GOD my soul to keep
'til nightfall comes when it is due
and the day of my world starts anew.
    as the valley of shadows
    brings enlightenment to you

    {no rest for the weary
    wake me when you're through}

    on the corner

    DO
    YOU
    SEE?

    S'neak...

where ya been, my friend? haven't read you in awhile. hope the sun is shining on your heart and you're lighting someone's world with that beautiful smile of yours.

THANKS FOR THE READ...glad you liked it.

    Cindy...

i know that you understand TOUGH LOVE...and the fact that you can't live your son's life. we all make choices. we have to live with our own choices. having three sons, i know how difficult it is to have to raise one. however, my kids always knew that my rules were law in my house...and until they were of age, they had to abide by them. it wasn't a matter of my house being A POLICE STATE. my WORD was law.

i'm a firm believer that it's a parent's responsibility to be a parent first...a friend, second. if my rules hurt their feelings then their feelings were hurt. now that they're grown, we have become friends. but, while they were young, i had to raise them to be the best CITIZEN they could be when they became grown...also, keeping them out of the hands of the system. THAT WASN'T EASY LIVING IN SOUTH CENTRAL.

    BUT I DID IT.

    they didn't run with gangs.
    they never went to jail.
and only one challenged my authority in my house.
    {the others learned QUICK that that wasn't a good idea}

    TOUGH LOVE.

since then, all my kids have thanked me for raising them the way i did.

SOMETIMES, YOU HAVE TO LET YOU CHILD BE THEIR OWN PERSON--especially at age 24.

    GOOD LUCK, MY FRIEND.
