NBC's Dateline has been doing a series of programs on internet predators.
I think it should be required viewing for every parent

    To Catch a Predator III

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA - A month ago, Dateline launched its third investigation into a growing national epidemic—grown men trolling the Internet, many looking for sex with children. This time, to expose them, we set up multiple hidden cameras in a house in Southern California.

A decoy coaxes the men in, but instead of finding a 12- or 13-year-old home alone, the men looking for sex will meet me.

Here’s an example of the kind of confrontation we’re in for: A 37-year-old, Kurt Lemke, a truck driver, calls himself “haloballfan” online. He thinks he’s here to meet a 13-year-old boy named Dave, but we really send him a decoy photo. During his chat, he makes plans to give the boy oral sex.

Chris Hansen, Dateline correspondent (hidden camera footage): What are you doing here?

    Kurt Lemke: Just hanging out.

    Hansen: Hanging out?

    Lemke: Who are you?

Hansen: Who are you here to meet?

    Lemke: I don’t know.

Hansen: Well why did you come here?

Lemke: I think I was, ah, misled.

Hansen: Misled ? Misled into what?

Lemke: Not sure who you are.

Hansen: I have the log of your conversation with somebody who identified themselves as a 13-year-old boy named Dave.

    Lemke: Okay.

    Hansen: Does that sound familiar?

    Lemke: Possibly.

And that’s about all he’ll say, so I tell him who I am:

    Hansen: We’re doing a story...

And he runs out and doesn’t want to hear anymore.

    Lemke: Hell no.

But unlike our previous hidden camera operations, where after leaving the house some men were able to make a run for it, this time things will be different. This time law enforcement will be waiting.

    lol... of course not!
this coming from a child of the computer in the room era..
chat rooms.. voice chat... video chat..
man.. my mom was lost when i got the new pc..
when she bought a family p.c at home i made sure to handle the parental controls myself..
    I have a 15 year old brother.. and a 6 y.o sis..
needless to say... if you dont know where to look,.
then you dont kno how to look!
most families put controls on internet..
some leave it to the kids to control themselves.. NOT a good idea!
My brother thought he was slick..
and used internet exp. to avoid the parental ctrls.
well i fixed that.. just delete all the internet links..
    and i mean all...
since each persons desktops is diff.,,
    this will not effect u..
    if u have aol..
just enter parental controls in the address bar and it will guide u thru!

yes i put the parental control on and often i'm beside
my son when he's doing his homework on line or looking
at some shoes not often can they get on line without me
knowing it and beside them .

Parents have to be careful also and know what there children are doing
on the net , protect them and your self ....chat rooms not allowed in my
house teen chat none i blocked it all from them there space is small on the
net, there are so many who try to lure children from home or seeking home alone
    kids

My kids ain't chatting with anybody........some folk give their young kids way too much leeway.....I saw 2 little kids yesterday 1 about 7 or 8 and 1 had to be 5 or 6 and they were alone walking from the store....the younger 1 tried to run her scooter up under my truck but luckily I was watching them the whole way and stopped but....but there's no way I'm letting my kids walk anywhere without me and I feel the same way about the net....they don't get on there unless I log them in and I sit there while they do whatever they do.....there are too many freaks out there hunting kids .....if you've never seen this site check it out.....you'll be surprised who lives around you and how many registered sex offenders live across the street from elementary schools and such.....I'm really careful with my kids because losing one or having something happen to them would crush me plus I don't really like having to chop up and dispose bodies ...........but if somebody hurt one of mine I'd have to break out the butcher kit ,bone saw and bags.......
