We were with God our Father before the foundation of the world and we were filled with joy to know we would be coming here to move forward in knowledge through experience.

For as death has passed upon all men, there needs be a power of resurrection.

Mortality is a period of probation, in which men have their free agency to act for themselves. When Adam and Eve fell they were cut off from the presence of the Lord so that they would have complete freedom to act for themselves, this was the first spiritual death which called for the great plan of salvation.

"I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down which accused them before our God day and night." Rev. 12:10

So, we were happy to be kicked out of paradise?

Funny, I've never heard Jesus being called a "probation officer" in the by-bill.

Did we even have a choice? That is, were we given the 'gift' of 'freewill'?

Adam and Eve, the first of mankind on this earth did fall to mortality by partaking of the fruit that was forbidden. They were told by God that to partake would bring death or mortality, it was a warning. And we see, that by their fall, all mankind became lost and fallen people. An we see that death comes upon mankind, which is a temporal death of the body; nevertheless there was a space granted unto man in which he might search for God, and commit to Him. Therefore, this life became a probationary state; a time to prepare to see God, a time to prepare for that endless state which has been spoken of by prophets, which is after the resurrection of our bodies because we have sought to make ourselves worthy in a Christ like life.

To disobey God is to suffer the consequences, as mortality can not reside within immortality, sin cannot reside within righteousness, and evil cannot abide glory. Therefore when we are resurrected, those who have resented God can not return to the presence of our Father, or from where we came.
