I'm sorry for not trusting you.
We'd been together for over 13 years
In the beginning I tried to love who you were
    No Labels..We Were Just Us
But sometimes, inadvertantly tried to change you
When all you did was be your beautiful self.
    Strong, beautiful,Trustworthy
Our 14th year, I said to hell with you
    I changed you,others saw it
But they were glad I did it
Asking why I didn't do it sooner
They said before you were a mean @$$
    now you were beautiful
    Offering no objection
    Supporting something so negative
    We divorced spiritually and physically
You were p*ssed off, decided to break off
    I didn't give a sh*t
I was happy for a while
Loving my new outlook on life
Smiled when I looked in the mirror
    Everyone was happy for me
Saying ooh I love the new you
I fought with you often in my mind
Wondering why I was being so selfish
But then I went back to the new me
Sometimes I thought about giving you a call
and give us a new beginning
But I said, you wouldn't want me again after all I did
Then one day I looked in the mirror.
    Looked at I
    Remembered the us..
Sayin..We Could become the New US!!!
I called..You said you still loved me
That you were waiting for me to return
That there could be no other
    We took it slow
I grew out the New me
    Became the New Us...
    You Proposed
    I said Yes...Beautiful One
    We Married..
From that day forward I knew
    I would never divorce you
    Till Death do us Part.
    I love you...

    Wow!!!!

This is poetry in action right here. My mind and heart felt for you as you divorced/seperated from a person, but in all actuality you were trying to fix something that wasn't broken: your self..your style...your hair.

I'm glad you found yourself and accepted your style. Excellent Work!!

I love it! The true struggle between a black woman and her hair came through with this one.

Gee, Nisa I'm sorry I didn't read this earlier. What a creative way to describe our conflicting feelings about our hair, and the decision to go natural. Excellent write.
