Sick, sick, sick. The canned food is an especially sick touch. Who's even got a can opener much less a stove to cook that slop on? The most sickening thing is Steve Pigott who is LongBranch Partners LLC Federal agency contact gets paid handsomely from FEMA yet he submits separate claims for each independent shipment as a corporate tax write off to the IRS which is a known corporate lackey.
Just a note on your can opener statement and the stove. This is probably true also in the PR as least outside the major cities.
I can go to almost any house in the DR and will not find a can opener. Most will open a can with a knife. You can be almost 100% sure that if there is a can opener, the place is either owned or rented by a gringo. Same goes for a stove here in the campo they use a hoguera which you would refer to as a campfire. sure lots of people have a stove but most don't use the oven, only the top burner. The oven uses too much propane, so we normally don't use it for anything more than storage. Remember that unlike the USA we don't have natural gas lines running to the house, everyone uses propane tanks. Canned food is great emergency food for the fact that it normally only needs warmed up as its already been cooked. And you can always boil the water over a wood fire. People here have been doing it for years.
