Black People : Deployed Again: Destination Puerto Rico

Sick, sick, sick. The canned food is an especially sick touch. Who's even got a can opener much less a stove to cook that slop on? The most sickening thing is Steve Pigott who is LongBranch Partners LLC Federal agency contact gets paid handsomely from FEMA yet he submits separate claims for each independent shipment as a corporate tax write off to the IRS which is a known corporate lackey.

Just a note on your can opener statement and the stove. This is probably true also in the PR as least outside the major cities.
I can go to almost any house in the DR and will not find a can opener. Most will open a can with a knife. You can be almost 100% sure that if there is a can opener, the place is either owned or rented by a gringo. Same goes for a stove here in the campo they use a hoguera which you would refer to as a campfire. sure lots of people have a stove but most don't use the oven, only the top burner. The oven uses too much propane, so we normally don't use it for anything more than storage. Remember that unlike the USA we don't have natural gas lines running to the house, everyone uses propane tanks. Canned food is great emergency food for the fact that it normally only needs warmed up as its already been cooked. And you can always boil the water over a wood fire. People here have been doing it for years.

The Governor of Puerto Rico got played by Trump, smh. If not for the Mayor of San Juan, the recovery would be even slower then what it is

...

So the other mayors that commented were wrong and only she was correct? She is the mayor of San Juan, not the major of the san juan metro area. If NYC had a mayor for each borough, would be somewhat like a mayor of the Bronx taking credit for all of NYC. And the other mayors not having the same experience.

Right right right. You're on the money with her prowess. Initially I downplayed her role in this fiasco as being a weeping Nellie but you always kept up your faith in her and sure enough she singlehandedly pulled it through. Good call.

Exactly, and this would be the post that explains all that.

... Puerto Rican local leaders like Cruz who govern in large, wealthier, or heavily populated areas like San Juan hold even more political power than their counterparts in the continental U.S. who lead city governments of similar size and population to San Juan ...
... During recovery from Hurricane Maria, Puerto Rico will likely still have to rely on mayors like Cruz to desperately become the voice asking for help ...

78 mayors in Puerto Rico, yet only 1 is in the news. What about the others what are their reactions on fema etc.

Clyde and Symbol of America
This is what your not understanding of what I am saying
San Juan municipality of which Cruz is the mayor has a population of 389,714, the San Juan metro area is comprised of San Juan and the municipalities of Bayamón, Guaynabo, Cataño, Canóvanas, Caguas, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, Carolina and Trujillo Alto, is about 2 million inhabitants; thus, about half the population of Puerto Rico now lives and works in this area. Each of those municipalities has their own mayor elected every four years. coordination is difficult with 77 other mayors operating at the same level.

this is much like the Dominican Republic, you would have to compare the San Juan metro area to the province of Santo Domingo which is comprised of the following municipalities each with their own mayor. The City is governed by a local government (Ayuntamiento del Districto Nacional) which is responsible for municipal functions through the Mayor, Consejo Municipal, and the Vice-Mayor, General Secretariat, and Technical Secretariat which provide support to the Mayor. In Puerto Rico mayors are the first line of leadership after the governor in Puerto Rico, reflecting its Spanish colonial past.

somewhat of an eye opener to the problems in Puerto Rico with the reporting structures and distribution problems they are having.
