Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial To Be Dedicated In D.C.
WASHINGTON -- This Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, marks the 48th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic "I Have a Dream" speech. It's also the dedication day for his memorial in Washington, D.C.
"The memorial to Dr. King is the first on the National Mall to celebrate a man of color, hope and peace," said Harry E. Johnson Sr., president of the MLK National Memorial Foundation.
It's also a monument that has been in the works for some time. In 1996, Congress passed a joint resolution authorizing Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. to build a memorial in Washington, D.C., honoring Dr. King.
In 2006, President George W. Bush joined former President Bill Clinton, members of Congress and an array of civil rights leaders for the memorial's groundbreaking ceremony.
At this Sunday's dedication, President Barack Obama is scheduled to speak.

    Thanks bruta....

Reading the words of King aquatints you with the content of his speeches. Hearing his voice provides the drama. Do you remember WVON 1450 would play sound bites of his speeches before returning to playing music?

    Peace!

Dr King was executed by the state for taking a stance
    for the poor
    for peace on earth
    and union rights and respect

therefore what would he say to the president about those things,
    if he was alive today?

:) I was tempted to touch upon that also, but I didn't want to sway to posts to talking about Obama. But since you already did.... Lol. I don't want to write too much, but today, Dr. King would be killed. He stood up against the Vietnam War, an illegal war of his day, soooo....

9/11, he would've been talking about not retaliating (especially against the wrong people as the US did); Iraq war, he would've condemned; Afghanistan, he would've condemned; every other military offensive afterwards, he would've condemned. He would've spoken against almost all of Obama's decisions/actions, and that would've gained him more enemies, especially amongst blacks, than the Vietnam War did. But hardly any black people realize any of this. In fact, they actually believe Obama to be like King. That's crazy.

In that documentary Rich posted is Collin Powell speaking on Dr. King. Collin Powell? Mr. War and Mr. Peace. They wouldn't mix.

    Check This Out:
Audio from Dr. King starts @ 0:56

After 9/11, after many Middle Easterners became the new blacks, many blacks became the new whites. "Our country" "Those people"

"Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities." -- Voltaire

"One cannot wage war under present conditions without the support of public opinion, which is tremendously molded by the press and other forms of propaganda."
    -- General Douglas MacArthur

"The propagandist's purpose is to make one set of people forget that certain other sets of people are human." -- George Orwell

"If they do it it's terrorism, if we do it, it's fighting for freedom. " -- A U.S. Ambassador in Central America in the 1980s, asked to explain how such U.S. actions as the mining of Nicaragua's harbors and bombing of airports differed from the acts of terrorism that the U.S. condemned around the world

"A compliant media can weave perverse dualities. An Air Force pilot who drops bombs into civilian neighborhoods and flees the scene becomes heroic, the personification of Tom Cruise, while a [Iraqi] who explodes him or herself in civilian neighborhoods is a terrorist, the personification of evil." -- Todd Rhodess

"Beware of the newspapers. They will have you hating the oppressed and loving the people doing the oppressing." -- Malcolm X

"The mechanisms of indoctrination that have evolved in the United States are entirely different from those that operate in the totalitarian societies of the world. Force is rarely used to ensure obedience, though it is well to remember that resort to direct force is not excluded. Recent revelations of the activities of the FBI in disruption and harassment of groups working for social change or even civil rights, the provocation of arson and bombings, incitement of gang warfare, support and direction for a secret terrorist army, and even in one case direct complicity in political assassination, simply remind us of the long and ugly history of the Bureau, which regularly functions as a national political police, enforcing political conformity and obedience. Nevertheless, the primary mechanism employed is not direct force, but rather ‘the engineering of consent,’ which is achieved through the domination of the flow of information and the means for expressing opinion or analysis. The system has been effective, and these successes too must be understood if one hopes to comprehend the nature of contemporary American society and its political processes." -- Noam Chomsky

    Correct and exact!!!

it reminds me of the brother that loved Malcolm so much, that he opened up a "El Hajj Malik "liqour store, and adjacent rib shack, and wondered why no one came to patronize it.

The best way to make a dedication to a true leader or avatar is to at least try to follow their legacy in some way or form
