I awoke this morning holding only myself.
Last night's dream vanished in a sullen mist
of disappointment and youthful arrogance
upon discovering that young and old both can play.
Utility creates deception and unknowing pawns
for the charming chessboard of whetted appetites,
where prey pretends defenselessness convincingly
to capture the huntress without revealing why,
leaving the predator perplexed and puzzled
unaware the game is concluded, completed
without knowledge or understanding of
what took place, in this place or in her space
while she leaves bewildered and baffled
feeling slightly worn but not knowing why.
