How do orthodox Christians deal with the thought that unsaved loved ones who have passed would, (according to Christian doctrine), be in hell with no hope of redemption?

Why even have a funeral service or anything else acknowledging their previous life when they are now spiritually dead in the eyes of the Christian God?

That is an arrogant and intolerant statement. So, where exactly will people like you go since you won't be dead for eternity? Before Jesus, where did people go?

Whether you lived before Jesus or not people go to the same place -- hell or heaven

All of the Old Testament figures went to hell then? That's even more of a reason for Christians not to study the Old Testament.

Okay, using your logic, since people who lived before Christ obviously didn't know him, you must "think" they went to hell.

I wonder why Oce hasn't addressed this further.

If this is what Christianity really endorses, then the OT people had it worse than I originally thought. They followed all of those barbaric rules only to get sent to hell because they didn't believe in Jesus, who didn't exist at that time... (though if Jesus was really God they would've already been worshipping anyway by their worship of Yahweh).

If the Christian God is that unpredictable, whose to say that following Christian doctrine will lead us to heaven?

The people of the OT were saved by following the old hebrew law which God to them to keep them moral until Jesus came and simplified the law for us .Now we are to follow the simplified laws that Jesus gave us to be saved.

Wow, this "God" of yours sure can't seem to make up his mind; he seems to make up the rules as he goes along.

No wonder the world is in such peril.
