The rotten Apple
Occupation
A+ technician
It’s been about a week since we last spoke
Though I often see you in my dreams
I’ve meditated many nights
On the lessons you taught me from birth, well into my teens
How to stand strong
And do for myself
So, the way I strengthened up my mind, body and spirit
Is all do to your help
So many people still missing you
Shows the effect you had in your physical form
They had too name a day after you in Sleepy Hollow
Because of the way you tried to right what was wrong
President of Zeta phi beta
At the same time President of the NAACP
If they want to know what you created all one need do
Is look at John, Jeanie and me
As I look at some of the young women and men around town
Most of which you had a hand is raisin’
Spare the rod and spoil the child
Never taking credit for your works, you would just lift your hands to praise ‘em
My memories can not be taken
Still remember the look on your face back in 1988
The first time you heard me say Asalaamualaikum
No more ham for me and please throw away the bacon
You started laughin’ cause you thought I was jokin’
But when I read the autobiography of Malcolm X that you gave me
It had my mind wide open, his life’s story so thought provokin’
And if he ever heard about you
Just like us, he’d be proud of you too
Your grandson Malik told me he misses you
“daddy, where’s grandma DeLoatch”
don’t worry ma, I helped him too understand
and yes, I was careful with my approach
I have all of your awards, trophies and plaques all in tack
They made the car so heavy leaving North Carolina
I had to stop for gas about 6 times on 95 north just so I could make it back
For so many, your spirit was a blessin’
& I can still hear your voice in 151 valley street callin’ me from down the hall
It was that strong, but for a young cub to grow into a Lion
Sometimes he has too hear a Lioness roar
but back here on earth, people still catching convenient amnesia
anytime, the bible seems to be out of their view
Psalms 82:6 or John 10:34-35
You see, Jesus had an attitude too
“Have I not told you that ye all are Gods
Sons and daughters of the Most High”
Ma, you backed your truth up with action
Your good works were multi
Unlike some preachers who couldn’t seem to find I95 South to come say goodbye to you
But yet want most to believe God has sent them on a mission
Like Paul on the road to Damascus
I guess they really don’t trust their vision
You had so much inner wisdom
You made me want to learn emphatically
I remember the last time you were laying on my lap, but couldn’t speak
So you spoke to me telepathically
You showed me another level of mathematics
Which helped to erase some of my bad habits
You influenced me to read the bible
As of this day I have already read it twice
So, unlike peter being approached by Roman soldiers
I’m living proof they can never deny your life
Skin of burnish brash and hair like lambs wool too
Is the only description we have of finding Christ
So like the book says, I sit and meditate
And await the return of your savior
Since he departed at his 33rd degree with knowledge of the Lions paw
Asalaamualaikum is how he’d greet me on his return, then I’ll ask my brother for a favor
When you return to the heaven’s
Please make sure my mother is at ease
Tell her not too worry and that I love her
And when she is ready to respond, just send me a message in the breeze
I’ll be down by the river waiting………

When you get to the river, look across that deep sea,
9 times out of 10 ...you'll always see me.
We ride the same plane, we all carry our load,
knowing someday ..we'll walk that same road.
The ancestors do live, and within us they reside,
through our heart, mind and memory..we keep them alive.
Much luv to you brother.
