    Hey Destee family,

Today is day 3 of not smoking, and I feel okay, but I almost had to dip off and get a quick fix. If there are any former smokers on here, PLEASE give me some tips on how you let the cigarettes go, or how you dealt with the sudden urges. Any help or suggestions are truly appreciated.

    One Luv,
    Rapunzal

Good for you!! Whenever you have an urge to smoke, drink water....milk also helps (if you drink it).

When I quit I'd chew on straws or gum....Like after eating you'll want to smoke...Chew on gum, it doesn't have to be a nicotine gum.... You will have a sensation of wanting to put something to your mouth.

Exercising also helps....Go for a walk.

The first week will be the hardest, I will not lie to you about that.

Just focus on the times that you really need a cigarette the most and find something else that you can substitute in that time of need.

If it means not drinking alcohol, cause I know some people smoke more when drinking, then quit drinking (if it's easy for you to quit)

Look at pictures that show you the effects of smoking....that always freaks me out

    Don't smoke in the car.

    Don't smoke in your house.

Don't smoke on your work breaks.

Try limiting the places that you would smoke at.

Cold turkey is that hardest. You have to have so much will power to quit. And I commend people who succeed doing it, but if you do find yourself smoking again, don't beat yourself over it, just try again...Most people aren't successful at going cold turkey...But the most important fact is is that you are trying.

And realize that you're extending the time of your life by quitting.

Thank you for the tips!!:) Everything that you named, like: drinking, driving in my car, work breaks, alcohol, is when I have to fight the urge the most. I did the going for the walk thing, and it definitely helped. I am doing it cold turkey because I don't like the side effects of the patch (I have nightmares in my sleep, for real real nightmares) so I will keep pushing on. I have to admit that the five minute walk I took really helped, I put my MP3 on and.....everything was alright. Thank you for that tip:). It is good to see that another person has tried to quit, and has conquered that problem...it gives me hope. 'Cause when I say that this is definitely on the top 2 list of things that have been the hardest things to accomplish in my life, people look at me like I am crazy, but I am so sincere, LOL!

I used the mind over matter thing , I chewed gum or simply didn't worry
about it , I also locked my lips around words then cigarettes but while
breaking myself away i didn't go cold turkey but limited myself daily
until i was able to have a pack for two weeks that's when i knew i can stop!
so i did just like dat !!! free now for 5 years from the smoke.

    GUM really helps

    Peace

Congratulations! I have never smoked, but i have friends who did and were able to kick it. When they got the urge they said they would read a book or chew gum. One of my female friends would even excercise because she said if she worked out she figured she'd be too tired to think about smoking....lol

    Hope some of this helps...

the main thing is to stay busy doing other things and even more importantly...until u become comfortable not smoking on a daily basis, stay away from the people/environments that u mostly smoked with/in before....this part is crucial because it's human nature to do what is familiar to u....good luck!

Just do it because YOU want to, not because of all the hype.
I quit about 20 years ago not because of what was said about cancer and all that other stuff, nor did i quit because of new rules, laws and other bunk. I simply quit because I wanted to. I had just grown tired of it.
Now, I'm not saying that it was easy because it wasn't. What I think got me through it was because it was my choice.
    Make sure it's yours.

    Good Luck!

Thanks, the support is great, I just want to feel better. I no longer enjoy smoking because I know it is bad for me and it is a crutch that I no longer need or want. I want to thank you and everyone for all the support. :)
