This piece is dedicated to every strong sista I have encountered in the arts and in the world....

This poem is for all Daybreak women singing dawn blues
This is for Aurora that scats her pain in 16th notes of jazz
While dancing on hot tin roofs
    Snapping fingers and necks
    While dancing in Mercado streets
Screaming give me Liberty or give me head
    Salsa sassy sweet soulful sista
    Femininity be her flag
    She be Temple goddess
    Tossed in Tibetan tempest
    Third world oppressed people defender
    Filipino Black Beauty
    Fist raised in the cause
Her pen drips rose red libations
She be making declarations of independence
    From all the world’s nonsense
Struggling to give third eyes blind crystal vision
Even when her soul is torn with indecision
She don’t want to submit so she fights
But she wants to be loved
Like all daybreak women with dawn blues
So this is for you Phoenix
That fiery winged wonder arisen from the ashes
    Of destroyed yesterdays
    Shattered slithers of self
Where a brotha tried to soulbeat down
    Your ebony melancholy muse blues
But sista you crooned your way to a new day
Guiding our people through Ghetto Masquerades
So we could find the Liberation
    Through your eyes
    I heard your cries
As the pain poured from places
    Deep down inside
But you blaze on like the rising sun
Don’t let anybody still that joy
I hear resounding in the dark, mahogany richness of your voice
    Your power be your peace
I can see your strength shining from within
Touching souls with the rays of golden blessing
Resurrecting daybreak women with dawn blues
    And this for you Cassie
    Honey molasses melanin princess
    Eyes full of wonder
Heart full of love and hope
Even with the pain of yesterday
You manage to hold on and keep dancing
If ever there was one to inherit God’s kingdom
    Then it would be you
Because the purity of your heart surpasses
The bitterness of the pain you have tasted in this life
You elevate past the grief and strife
Determined to believe that there is a greater peace
You inspire me to believe in love
You are the candlelight illuminating the darkness of humanity
Dispelling the dawn blues of daybreak women
    And this is for Talitha
    Jamaica America
Standing proud like a true Queen
    Daring to dream
    Daring to defy defined destinies
Daring to bring the Truth even when it hurts
Yes Sista I recognize your power
You reign supreme on your throne
Creation is the inspiration of your words
    You flow like waters
You command the elements of Nature with your royal stride
You got one foot planted firmly on the Universe
    The other on the Heavens
Saying , “I Rule The World”
While I stand back and say “You Go Girl”
This poem is for all daybreak women singing dawn blues
So this is for you Redd, Judah, Anita, Monica, Diamond, Rachel, Chucky, Mother, Grandmother, and all the great women of the world
    Wonders of the Universe
    Women of God
    Worlds Undiscovered, Undefined
    Worshipped Dieties
    Warrior Women
Yes, I pay tribute to you
For every word of inspiration and encouragement
For the tears we have all wept in sorrow
For every woman that said “No I will not die today, but live until a new tomorrow”
For every woman that has walked away from abusive relationships
For every woman that dares to fly above the storm clouds
For every woman that dares to live out loud
For every woman that possesses the secret of joy
For every woman that continues to live and love
    This poem is for you
Daybreak women that sing dawn blues
