"Documentary exploring the deep-seated biases and attitudes about skin color particularly dark skinned women, outside of and within the Black American culture.

Dark Girls is a fascinating and controversial documentary film that goes underneath the surface to explore the prejudices that dark-skinned women face throughout the world. It explores the roots of classism, racism and the lack of self-esteem within a segment of cultures that span from America to the most remote corners of the globe. Women share their personal stories, touching on deeply ingrained beliefs and attitudes of society, while allowing generations to heal as they learn to love themselves for who they are."

I didn't see it. Did anyone here see this? If so, what did you think?

Watch the world television premiere of Dark Girls on OWN. Tune in Sunday, June 23, at 10/9c.

    India Arie

I really enjoy this woman's music, loved her song, Brown Skin, but why is she lighter in skin tone than she used to be?

Get real, Alarm Clock. You know as well as anyone that Colorism has been a white-imposed problem on the black community since slavery!

She's not. Although the blame is her own since she APPROVED the cover picture of her looking like somebody else she was so light!

That can't be true. If this were true you would see more or an equal amount of dark women in hip hop videos. If we were to go with your logic then there are hardly any appealing dark women who are appealing ...maybe a dime a dozen

Surely you're not saying more white and whitish-looking women on rap videos have prettier faces than the overwhelming majority of dark-skinned women that you rarely to never see on them.... :10500:
