Black Poetry : Daddy Knows

[alyce]

so many years ago
her Daddy
dried her tears
and held her
in his arms
when she
felt the world
had come to
an end
because
Ellis was
making time
with another
girl at school

he told her
Ellis and
no other man
would love
her more
than he..

Daddy told her he was
all the boyfriend
she would ever
need...

somehow
this didn't
console her
young &
aching heart

but her Daddy
knew her
better
than she
knew herself

said so, too
said he knew
what she was gonna think
before the thought
even crossed her mind...

knew things about her
she never even mentioned

cuz she was made
from him
and they shared
the same heart

said he could see
into the future, too
with tears in his
own eyes

that must be why
she's wanting
her Daddy's arms
around her
all these years
later...

so her tears
can tell him
what his
heart already
knows

he knew before she could speak coz the hearts
be the same in his frame she be he feels her emotions

a..my daddy's been gone for 15 years and I still long to feel his arms around me and put my head on his chest when I cry my tears, even though I know it can't happen...but reading this bought him back to me...for a fleeting moment...thank you for this......
