    I’m cuttin my afro today
For I’m tired of how much it weigh
And the trouble of braiding it has gone gray
Tryin’ to duck and dodge every hair gone astray
The poofiness has gone to lay
The vibrant beauty of it did not stay

    I’m cutting my afro today
The ruggedness of it is becoming a struggle
The pain and tribulations is hard to juggle
Placing gel on it and it still won’t stay.....not even a little
The dandruff is in it and it’s down right brittle

The colors combined is obviously murder
The lies on the packages is torcher
    With the relaxer
    texturizer
    conditioner
    and moisturizer
My afro is gone gray just like my mother
    father
    grandfather
    and grand mother
    The middle won’t gather
And I can’t see anything better
Than to cut my afro layer by layer
My roots are nappy unlike the old time player
The hair itself has become it’s own barrier
    And I’m his carrier
Lights turned on or off I’m his carrier
    Carrier of the nurturance
    and vibrancy

With all his weight I think it’s time for a replacement
To rid me of the torment
    contentment
    neglectence
    and reference
    It with the attendance
    And maintenance
    Of a wig without hesitance

    I’m cutting off my afro
So it may no longer grow
Into something that breaks my heart so
    No
Longer will my roots manifest my dough
Payin’ folks like beauticians to braid it through

    I’m through
    I’m through with the grays
The afro that does everything but what I say
    I say
I’m cuttin’ off my afro today
Today, I’m cuttin’ off my afro today
I’m cuttin’ off my afro and his DISMAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well as i was reading your flow
my thouht drift to and fore
i see you talking about hair
then i see you speaking on
    a ancestor lair
    it seem like there
    is a double meaning
    in there
it may be silly in what i see
but i feel what the afro
    can be
it can be a heavy weight
    indeed
    nice flow
    Peace
    Blue

I agree with Blue, the weight is more than of the hair, it's the weight of the struggle... keep flowin as you do poet, with flair.

    Yes, I can dig it.

I hope it's not too late, but...

    DON'T DO IT!!!

Loc it up, let the beauty of our culture grow long & proud, U can let the roots nap up, but the dreds will keep it presentable.

Carry the weight proudly, boldly, unmistakably aware of yourself.
