On Criticism

The aim of all commentary on art now should be to make works of art - and, by analogy, our own experience - more, rather than less, real to us. The function of criticism should be to show how it is what it is, even that it is what it is, rather than to show what it means.

"Programming" is arguably not at all a bad thing, depending on what 'program' we are talking about. Quoting your piece above it can be, "very necessary to instil an orderly view of life in you, Parameters, a safe domain, beyond which lies restraining/real pain."

There are also some forms of programming that carry stiff penalities for deviations - like the law, hence one who adheres to them may not at all be an unwitting dupe, but rather someone who having weighed the benefits and rewards - finds it necessary to not, for example - go stick up a bank. But the overall point is factual - life is essentially a series of programming one way or another. Interesting. Thanks for sharing.

I'm Black on Destee, I feel at home! It's been a while! Soooo in 2004 I married my Senegalese Husband, when I first went to Senegal, I loved, it! The people were hospitable and my husband's family was very kind! Well I've been there many times now, have taken African Americans, well over 150 and it has been an amazing experience!
