if they told you to get out, what would YOU do?
do you have any place to go?
    how would you get there?

    do you have a passport?

can you get out of the country?
do you have any money put away?
    what would YOU do?

At this point, don't know. But those question seem like the answers to start focusing on (putting away money, passport etc)

In these times a passport is essential for every black person in America. I've had mine for some time (I even have one for my 1 month old son), and am ready to use it at a moments notice!

Yes, I could evacuate. I also have a passport and every body in my immediate family has one. I agree that every Black person in the country should have one.

In addition, I think it would help a whole lot if we were to all take some survival training classes or at least one--to for ex. learn how to purify water, to learn which plants to eat if we have to, to learn how to orient ourselves directionally if we are in the wilderness, to learn how to start a fire from scratch, to learn how to care for wounds, etc. Also, swimming is a critical skill to learn.

Good question, and something we all need to seriously think about.

You would need more than a passport though... having a passport and no savings isn't going to do any good. So this would be another reason to have some money put away, so if you have to go to another state or even another country you would have some cash you could use to sustain yourself. Even having a high-balance credit card that you don't use is something. In addition to this, people should start collecting physical cash in a piggybank or something.

But to answer the question from my own personal situation... we could drive to another location, but that's about it.

I'll take this one step further. We need a passport and money. However we don't need money sitting in a bank. I lived in New York during 9-11, and the next day ATMs were shut down. Most eventually came back up; however, in case of a similar or worse disaster I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens. We need to have gase with us, and a full tank of gas (despite rising gas cost) at all times.

if you have money in a bank in NYC and New York is shut down, can you access that money from another country?
suppose i fly to Canada and they tell me i can't get my money?
