In the tropical south
I sat and watched
a brilliant
blak snake
as he slithered
his way into
my reef
that lay just
below the coral line

I loved that snake ~
we were copasetic...
Feeling ... fine --
Everything was
~~ everything
...or so it seemed

Until I listened
more closely to
the rumble of
waves that carried a
liquid sound to my heart
as I swallowed sea
salted tears

I heard all of the
echoes of that snake's
love lies through
the soft whispers
of colorful
coquina shells
when I held them close
to my heartbroken ears

And suddenly t(I)des
washed you away
from the sands
of my time

As ... I could now
see and hear just
how shallow
your ocean really was

All of this I learned
by listening
to the true sounds of
coquina shells that
told snake tales

The brilliance of
the blak Coral Snake
had then become dull
and he'd gotten tangled
in my reef ~~

...that same blak snake
no longer leaves an
impression on the
coral beachfront
of my mind

A nice view!

I caught and flash of something else here--it blurred past my eyes, but it did not go undetected--beneath the waves something else stirred--Amun-Ra
