An international series of protests known as SlutWalks, sparked by a Toronto police officer's flippant comment that women should avoid dressing like "sluts" to avoid being raped or victimized, is taking root in the United States.

Some women and men who protest dress in nothing more remarkable than jeans and T-shirts, while others wear provocative or revealing outfits to bring attention to "****-shaming," or shaming women for being sexual, and the treatment of sexual assault victims.

"It was taking the blame off the rapist and on the victim," said Nicole Sullivan, 21, a student at the University of Massachusetts-Boston and an organizer of the SlutWalk planned Saturday in that city. "So we are using these efforts to reclaim the word '****.'"

The police officer made his comments in January to a group of York University students at a safety forum. He later apologized,

Rape is about violence not sex.. We shouldn't be looking to cops to give us any real intelligent insights.. They are not the thinkers. The **** walks sound like a
Ridiculous waste of time and energy.. Misdirected energy..

It depends on the scenario. There are stalker types of rapists who plot and plan to rape a women simply to enjoy humiliating her. Then there are those guys who decide to just take it because they are both in bed naked and he is horny as hell and she decides to not proceed at the last minute right before penetration. I'm not excusing the guy but rape is not just about violence for the sake of it.

Judicial council reviews judge's sex assault remark

    The case

The sentence was much lighter than the three years in prison the Crown had requested for Kenneth Rhodes. He had been convicted of sexual assault for an incident that happened five years ago outside of Thompson, Man.

Dewar called Rhodes a "clumsy Don Juan" and said "sex was in the air" on the night the sex assault occurred. He also noted that the victim and her girlfriend were wearing tube tops without bras, high heels and lots of makeup.

"This is a different case than one where there is no perceived invitation," said Dewar. "This is a case of misunderstood signals and inconsiderate behaviour."

The 26-year-old victim, whose identity is protected, has criticized the comments and said they represent an extreme form of sexism, and that no woman invites sexual assault.

Karen Busby, a law professor at the University of Manitoba, suggested the comments blame the victim while partially exonerating her attacker.

"That goes back to suggesting that women are in a state of constant sexual readiness and that sexually active women will consent to sex with all comers," Busby said.

"We've got a victim who five years after the assault ... says she's still afraid to leave her home... It's inappropriate."

In 2006 Rhodes and a friend had met the victim and her friend outside a bar in what the judge called "inviting circumstances."

Later that night Rhodes forced the victim to have sex with him in the woods alongside a highway.

Rhodes pleaded not guilty during his trial and argued that he believed there was consent.

The judge rejected the suggestion that the victim had consented, but said he would consider some of Rhodes' points in sentencing.

The Crown has ordered a transcript of the sentencing hearing, but said it has not decided whether it will file an appeal.

Majority of males and females in America aren't exactly slim and trim, so i would say males should work on their big bellies and not walk around with no shirts if they have a big bellies- and women should cover up their stretch marks?

Who investigates and takes sexual assualt claims from women?

Rape is about power and control.. but I'm not surprised at his remarks... a lot of those cops, judges, etc are part of homosexual fraternities so they just channeling the mentalities of their Greek homosexual misogynist ancestors..
