It is said that you never really know how someone really feels until you have a conversation with that person. I recently had the opportunity to engage in one such conversation and I must confess folks, man it was quite revealing. Allow me to give you just a little back ground before I get started and I will refrain from using any names here.

Now, I have known this man whom I held in high regard (and to some extent, still do) for just a little over fourteen years through a working relationship. However, you know what they say; “I know him but I really don’t know him”. He comes across as very compassionate, understanding, personable and an honest person. Extremely easy to talk with and from what I could surmise then and still to this day, he does not have a single racist bone in his being… He’s intelligent, disciplined, methodical, calculating, loyal and driven to be successful, all of which are qualities that I respect, admire and have personally aspired to incorporate in my life…His smile and demeanor are very disarming and could leave one with the impression of a docile man…But make no mistake about it, he’s a sly fox and skilled predator who knows how to shake people up in order to get what he needs to get done…These are for the most part pretty much common traits in all successful business men and women..

That was very interesting. As I read it I was in such disbelief that he seemed to be so comfortable expressing his views to you like that. Oblivious to the fact IMO that you're a black man. How does a white man become that comfortable expressing himself one on one like that? I have always had the opinion that white people automatically think we care or want to hear what they have to say. This man you write about takes it even a few steps farther.

Hey JenaBee, I thought it was very odd that he would approach me like that also. Like I said in my piece, either he was audacious and ignorant or felt that comfortable with me due to our relationship and maybe he felt he had that privilege because of the color of his skin and the fact that he paid my invoices without question. It more than likely could be a combination of all the above but I can assure you that he no longer feels that way after I directed him to my blog so that he could gain some further insight into how I feel... Needless to say we haven't continued the conversation as he said we would!! Thanks for your comment and for reading.....
