Now imagine american Africans in the army being sent to fight "west African insurgents".. Then arriving their and witnessing the murder.. The rape.. The sabotage of people that look just like them.. Imagine the conflict in their own minds.. Their first time in Africa..
All joking aside, considering how rich Nigeria is, the question remains: Why is the country not in better shape than it currently is? Why is it vulnerable to foreign incursion/invasion? Why is the leadership, and the populace, unconcerned and complacent about that? (And it is not the fault of "outsiders.")
You cannot have an honest conversation on this topic without answering those questions.
I wouldn't say the populace is unconcerned. Not at all. One of the major problems is a lack of commitment on the part of National, state and local officials to the improvement of infrastructure and rampant cronyism.
