Amun-Ra : Conservative: What Does It Mean You?

Conservative folks tend to think racism is dead and everything is equal. So if you don't succeed in life it must be your fault somehow. They are unable or unwilling to see how the system plays a role in the black community's 'failures.'

The only thing I can agree with conservatives on is that blacks do need to do more, but not according to white culture's format of success (which would mean getting an education and entering into white corporate America). Blacks need to establish economic solidarity and not worry as much about white acceptance. We should still advocate for civil rights, along with some social freedoms (we shouldn't have to drink from separate water fountains for example), but anything beyond that we shouldn't concentrate on as much. We need to realize that we need to create our own close-knit communities so that we're not so reliant on white culture's acceptance of us. Now that we have, (at least on paper), enough freedoms to establish ourselves economically, we need to work inward.

karmashines Good Point

Karmashines you have made a very valid point. My husband and i talk about our people being more self reliant. We are more than able to support our families and communities, like the Hispanic race. They take care of their family no matter what. Black people have and always will be survivals. God has blessed each and everyone of us with a strong backbone and wisdom. Inspiration and Action is what we need. Meeting of the minds are in order on how we can help our own.

interesting topic for me considering that a recent thread i started prompted someone to suggest i go post it on one of the "conservative" sites where it might be more accepted.

personally, i don't really use all the code word terms like "conservative," "leftist," "right wing," etc. so it's interesting to read what the terms are supposed to mean. as far as i'm concerned, they're some code words made up by some white folks to negatively label and ostracize people who don't fit into a certain mold. unfortunately, some black people are starting to use the terms in that way too.

according to the definitions, we're all probably a mixture of all the terms put together, so why even feed into the game of giving the labels any real validity?

More and more when I think of the current trend of the conservative mold in this country I see white men, Republicans who were formally Dixicrats, White Citizens Councils, uncaring individuals, corrupt businessmen, bigots, wannabe rich white men, women who do exactly what their men want per the Bible and people only concerned with themselves--Ra
