I'm an alumni of a block
where very few graduated
from the school of hard knocks
but thank God that I made it

the road was might long
and the battles plenty rough
some of my people stood strong
while others were strong enough

they succumb to the weight
of an overbearing life
'cause the darkness of fate
suffocates the guiding light

i never seen a tear shed
but i heard plenty cries
and even though our wouds bled
somehow we still survive

i hear the whispered prayers
of my fallen soldiers
as they ponder if the pain
will ever be over

forsaken hopes and dreams fall by the way-side
asking for help I lift my head to the sky

Precious Lord please take my hand
lead me on and help me stand
place me feet on a solid rock
and grant me the strenght to revive my block

venture outside the pews and church walls
to incline your ear to my ghetto's call
grant grace to my folks that's trapped in the streets
protect the projects that caress the conkrete...
