no wonder you didn't hear me
how could you when not listening
reminds me of the line...
in the song..
"you say the most, when you say nothing at all"
our ears are not the only tool we have to listen with..
communication is a lost art for some in todays society...
when da man of love speaks
I listen intently......
that the true art of communication is in the listening...the listener must:
a) give full attentiveness when the other is speaking
b) allow the speaker to have their complete say, interrupted
c) review what the speaker has said to make sure what has been
communicated is what the speaker intended (i.e. "so what
you're saying is....", or "what I'm hearing is...")
d) upon establishing the understanding, the listener can then
respond...and the same rules apply to the former "speaker" ...
communication is not waiting for the speaker to shut up so we can get our point across and our digs in... so much is lost when we're caught up in our pride .... and we show our ignorance and our ultimate lack of sincerity when we say we care for and/or love someone. When we claim we want to get something straight. Love thrives on open communication. It doesn't always feel good to be honest. But we can't grow without pain. And without growth, ain't no real love.
Sorry, got long-winded. This is one of my thangs. I teach it, I preach it...and one of these days I hope to fully reach it, my **** self.
Thank you for bringing this to my mental, Mr. E. (and for saying it so well)
