They say I should get a perm flatten my hair out a bit
Let it reach my shoulders and move with my body as I walk
I don't think so I like my hair to be nappy sometimes and out there
People may stare, but it's probably because they dont have the guts to let it just flow
Like when I speak they want to shut me up quick because what I'm saying is right
Just because I'm young I get told sit your butt down and listen
Are you going to wear stockings?
Why do you always try to be different?
What is that imitation of an anklet on your ankle?
I just shake my head and say because I want to,this is me why are you trying to comform me turn me into this blue eyed doll with long straight blonde hair
When that's not who I was created to be
See if I was posed to be that way mama woulda been lighter than she already is and my daddy wouldn't look so black that he almost blue
My great grandfather wouldn't be an ex-slave straight from Africa and my Great Grandmother wouldn't be an indian mixed with white woman.
See that's why I have these big lips, caramel skin, brown, black and sometimes red hair in the summer.
I do not wear make up because this is me what you see is what you get.
I will not starve myself to fit a size 0-5 and I will not put damaging chemicals in my happy curly sometimes nappy hair.
Why?
I'm comfortable almost invisible in my skin........ :sand: :teach:

Self- appreciation is key to everything!
Prince said it like this..."Style is loving yourself until everyone else does too"
You mos' def got style!!!!!!!!!

I'm loving this poem.
Maybe if everyone was more comfortable in their skin
The world would be a better place.
Wonderful message!
Wonderfully posed
Feelin it deeply!!!!!

PEACE AND LOVE
