christianity and islam are not the same or equal . Christianity believes Jesus is God and Islam believe he was just a man this one difference makes all the difference. In christianity the messenger and the message are one and the same so if you accept one you accept the other.

    Nsala malecum,

Oceolo, I believe AnAfrican was not making a direct theological comment, but rather a more historical and political statement. Both Islam and Christianity evolved from cultures outside of an African template and as such, share a common experience in regards to Africa and African peoples. Both have a history of imposition and a legacy of oppression. Inherent within both is a concept of religious arrogance that presupposes that only they are the true sources to the Divine Being and all others lead down a different path. Doctrinal-wise, they have a point of divergence, but in regards to their ultimate mission statements, commonalities abound.

The religion Al Islam means the total and absolute submission to the will of God. A muslim is one who submits himself/herself to the will of God. Muslims are in the Middle East, South Asia, Western Asia, Northern Africa, Eastern Africa, Western Africa, North America and Eastern Europe. Muslims are people that practice Islam. Countries in the Middle East are kingdoms with a theocratic government structure under Islamic rule. Muslims can be found all over the world and are many different races of people.

    Peace......

    Nsala malecum,

Islam, like most of the world religions, transcend race and geographical boundaries. However, each religion, regardless of where it is and what it's name, issues from a particular cultural context, influenced by a particular worldview. The fact is the world religions ( ex. Christianity and Islam) were more ambitious and went beyond their point of origin to encompass a diverse segment of the human population by whatever means were accessible. Due to the aggressiveness of these world religions, it becomes a mote point to suggest the international and multiracial character of both. Why? Because although Islam is so widespread geogrpahically and racially, the main group, Sunni Muslims, turn to Mecca as the focal point of the world and the "holy" city of their faith. Even an Eskimo convert would see Mecca as the "holy"; no offense intended but how culturally absurd is that. Same goes for Christianity.

How can you lump christianity with islam? Christianity doesnt have a"Mecca." The only focal point of christianity is Jesus.

    Nsala malecum,

Christianity requires the extra-cultural orientation as Islam. Islam and Christianity sprang from the same theological background and constitutes two branches within the Abrahamic religious complex. In comparison with many of the world's traditions, Islam and Christianity have more in common than not.

They do have similarities but the one major difference (Jesus as God) is more important than any of the similarities so they are not the same.
